Artist Statement Welcome to my colorful world where I create bold, expressive paintings in acrylic and watercolor on canvas and paper. My artwork is inspired by the overall theme of It's a Beautiful Life which includes paintings of flowers, landscapes, cocktails, desserts, animals and more. This overarching theme allows me to explore a variety of subject matter that bring beauty, happiness and joy to my life. I paint in luscious layers of rich, gorgeous color exploring shape, form, line, lights and darks.
Thoughts on my floral paintings on paper: I start my painting sessions in my studio by doing black and white studies. These are inspired by my imagination or fresh floral bouquets. Later I come back to them and add color turning them into finished works of art. My intention with these paintings is to get into the flow of painting, plan lights and darks and explore color combinations.
Thoughts on my daily paintings: My daily paintings are acrylic on 6"x6" canvas panel. I start by setting up a still life using colored papers and flowers cut from the garden or bouquets from the store. I set up my palette with a limited number of colors. I use one big brush for the entire painting. My goals are to keep the composition simple, the colors clean and bright, create lights and darks and not to get fussy by limiting my brushstrokes. I paint everyday because it makes me feel like I have accomplished something each day. It gets me into a creative flow and allows me to practice consistently what I am passionate about, painting. I paint flowers because I love their color, shape and energy. My hope is that I can capture the essence and energy of the flowers in this daily painting practice.
Cecelia has been teaching art and creating for over 20 years. She has always loved painting and sharing the joy of creative expression with others. She loves teaching art to all ages and has taught elementary art in public schools and has taught art classes and workshops to all ages through local art centers such as the Sharon Lynn Wilson Center for the Arts in Brookfield. Her newest adventure is her art school, The Creative Arts Oasis in Waukesha, where she teaches acrylic painting, watercolors, alcohol inks, mixed media and wool felting to kids and adults. Cecelia left her public school teaching career because of chronic pain and fatigue from fibromyalgia and arthritis which makes everyday tasks challenging at times. Making art gives her a safe, comfortable place to relax and find relief and a positive outlet to express herself. Cecelia grew up in Tucson, AZ and still spends time there with her family. She received her BFA in Studio Art and Art Education from the University of Arizona and a Masters in Education from Carroll University as well as a Masters in Counseling from Concordia University. She lives in Waukesha with her husband and her menagerie of pets. Teaching Philosophy I am a painter and a teacher but really I am a creative expression explorer! I want to live in a world where everyone is excited to explore art and creative expression in their own ways. If I was in charge our world would be full of people willing to be courageous creative explorers! Everyone would know how to nurture their creativity and encourage each other to create. In my perfect world confidence in our creative abilities would be taught in every school. I am living proof that creative expression can add layers of richness in your life, richness in love, abundance, and happiness. I have one question for you...How can you make creative expression a part of your life journey?
